Description

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents voted unanimously to select Dr. Robert Exley as the sole finalist for the college president position during a meeting on April 6.

A contract for Dr. Exley is set to be approved after a 21-day waiting period. The finalist was chosen after a nationwide search from the firm Greenwood Asher. Candidates were selected from a presidential search committee consisting of regents, faculty, staff, a student and members from the community.

The search was initiated in October 2020 with the hiring of Greenwood Asher and the creation of the search committee.

Dr. Exley was among three finalists who visited the campus and had several interviews with faculty members, staff, administrators and the Board of Regents.

"I'm absolutely excited, honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as ACC President," he said. "I am very much looking forward to working with the team at ACC. I think the future ahead is bright."

Exley served as the 17th President of Snead State Community College in Boaz, Ala., from January 2008 through August 2020. Prior to his time in Alabama, he served as President of Parkland College in Champaign, Ill., and as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dr. Exley received his Associate of Arts degree from San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas, his BA and MS from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and his Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin. Exley and his wife Anita currently live in Corpus Christi.

Regents said Dr. Exley will provide experienced leadership for the college staff and will ensure continued success.

"On behalf of the ACC Board of Regents, I am excited to welcome Dr. Exley as our next president," said 'Bel Sanchez, chair of the Board of Regents. "I look forward to watching him lead and build on the great foundation that Dr. Christal M. Albrecht and her team have built. I ask that the community help them feel at home at ACC."

Dr. Exley will be the college's seventh president and will take over the position from Dr. Albrecht, who is retiring on August 31.
